A mysterious lull in orders has given me the opportunity to revamp the ailing hen shelter with an extra course of living willow. This is all in a bid to lure them out of the vegetable garden where they have been strutting and fluffing and dusting to their hearts’ content, eating slug eggs and pecking at the seaweed. But alas, planting must now begin and will come to nought with the feathered ladies left rampant.
As I worked, weaving weft of willow into the living warp, Yorick and Andre sang loudly and badly to the well-worn playlist while slapping and rubbing lime render onto the straw bale wall. I competed with Jazz standards. Lovely to be outside again!
